Grounding AI assisted code in live documentation

AI writes confident code against APIs that changed last month

The failure mode of AI assisted development is not that the model writes bad code. It is that the model writes plausible code against a version of a library that no longer exists. The fix is not a better prompt. It is grounding the model in the current documentation at the moment it writes.

Pull the docs into the work

Context7 serves version accurate documentation for a library on demand, so the answer reflects the release you actually depend on rather than whatever the model saw during training. The workflow is simple: before writing against a library, fetch its current docs and let them shape the code.

This matters most for the libraries that move fastest. A framework that ships breaking changes every few months is exactly the one where stale knowledge produces the most confident, most wrong code. Grounding turns "I think the API is shaped like this" into "the docs say the API is shaped like this."

A concrete example

When this very platform was built, the framework had breaking changes that pre dated nothing in any training set: route params arrived as a promise that had to be awaited, the image config moved, and several conventions shifted. Code written from memory would have failed the build in a dozen small ways. Code written from the current docs compiled the first time.

Before writing the route handler:
1. fetch the current docs for the framework's routing API
2. confirm whether params is sync or async in this version
3. write against what the docs say, not what you remember

The principle underneath

This is the same vendor neutral instinct that runs through the whole stack. The model is a tool, not an authority. The authority is the current documentation, and the job of the tooling is to keep the model honest by putting that documentation in front of it. Ground first, generate second, and the confident wrong answer stops being a category of bug you ship.
